John Mizukawa, D.D.S.

Dr. John Mizukawa was born on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. His family moved to St. George, where he graduated from Pine View High School. He attended a year of college before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Barcelona, Spain. He completed an undergraduate degree in zoology and a master’s degree in physiology and developmental biology from Brigham Young University.

After graduation, he attended dental school in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California, where he graduated near the top of his class, and was given an award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists for the top senior in the class. He would go on to complete his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

During residency, he was given extensive training in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants and grafting, corrective jaw surgery, head and neck trauma and reconstruction, management of benign pathology, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and became licensed to provide IV general anesthesia to adults and pediatrics. Following residency, he worked several years in a private practice oral surgery group in Knoxville,TN and was adjunct faculty at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville oral surgery residency program, training the next generation of oral surgeons.

Dr. Mizukawa moved back to southern Utah in 2022, and joined Southwest Oral Surgical Arts as a Board Certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Although he enjoys practicing full scope oral surgery, his true passion is helping his patients get out of pain, and restore their smile to proper form and function with dental implants. He likes to stay on the cutting edge of techniques and technology.

Away from the office, Dr. Mizukawa loves exploring southern Utah via climbing, hiking, camping. He’s an avid sports fan and enjoys playing his violin. He absolutely adores his wife Marcy, and three kids; Elise, Ryan, and Noah.
